We invite you to join IAPMD at the Vagina Museum, London, to ‘think outside the box’ regarding reproductive health. We will be here on Sunday, August 28th, from 10 am - 5 pm (GMT).
PMDD - Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder. Did you know there is a mental health condition that is triggered by ovulation? For 1 in 20 women and AFAB individuals - life is impacted every month when ovulation triggers large hormone fluctuations, causing the PMDD brain to react and cause negative symptoms such as depression, anxiety, irritability, rage, overwhelm, and even thoughts of suicide - only lifting when the bleeding begins. This is no ordinary PMS!
PME - Premenstrual Exacerbation. Did you know that many health conditions are exacerbated in the lead-up to periods? Yes - as if cramps aren't enough, 60% of those with a menstrual cycle who live with depression and 50% of those with Bipolar Disorder will experience worsening (exacerbation) of symptoms in the luteal phase.
Members of the team from IAPMD will be in attendance - asking you to 'think outside of the box' when it comes to periods and mental health- armed with information and resources to learn more!
Tickets are FREE, but you must book a timeslot to attend. Pick your time and your tickets for Sunday 28th August here:
The Vagina Museum is the world’s first bricks-and-mortar museum dedicated to gynecological anatomy. Now open in Bethnal Green.
“There was a penis museum in Iceland. Which is pretty cool. But there was no vagina equivalent anywhere in the world.
We were pretty miffed (muffed?) when we learned this, but we thought there was only one way to rectify this.
Make one.
The project was launched in 2017 and started with pop-ups around the country, including exhibitions and events. We did pop-ups in all kinds of places, from Green Man Festival to the Royal Institution to the Feminist Library to the Freud Museum.
We opened our first premises in Camden Market in 2019, our second in Bethnal Green in 2022, with a view to start work on our permanent premises within the next few years.”
