5k+for+PMDD

5k run/walk $15 (USD)

A 5k is a great distance for all ages, shapes and sizes. Completing a 5k run is the perfect goal for those looking to enter their first race. 5k races are also popular with more seasoned runners looking to keep their running short, sharp, and fast. Not up for running? You can walk, swim, or skate too!

10k run/walk $20 (USD)

A 10k race (about 6.2 miles) is an achievable but challenging distance for a beginner looking to move up from 5k’s! A 10k is also a great distance for more experienced runners.

Why not get sponsored too? You can easily set up a fundraising page here and the cost of the race will be waived if you raise a minimum of $100 (USD).

Half+marathon+for+PMDD

For the seasoned runner (or if you just want a big challenge!), the half marathon is the option for you!

Why not get sponsored too? You can easily set up a fundraising page here and the cost of the race will be waived if you raise a minimum of $100 (USD).

…so no one walks alone with PMDD.

FAQ

Want to know more? Read below for our guide which should answer all your questions!

Who can get involved?

Everyone! Runners, walkers, and wheelchair users are all encouraged to get involved. Get some friends involved and have fun!

About the ‘races’

  • These virtual races (you don’t have to race - but you can if you’d like!) are a fun way to raise funds for an important cause. Link up with others, or go solo - just get involved! There are options of 5k, 10k or half marathon*

*If you would like to do a different length, set up your IAPMD fundraising page here or a facebook fundraising page here.

  • The Ignite Your Fight virtual runs are a fundraiser for IAPMD as part of their IGNITE THE FIGHT campaign. This campaign ensures financial sustainability for IAPMD - meaning we can roll out our strategic plan and make the change around the globe to save lives.

  • This Strategic Plan is our roadmap to guide and prioritize the work of IAPMD to accelerate progress being made around the world on premenstrual disorders (PMDs). With so many opportunities to influence and impact PMDs around the world, this plan reflects the unique role the IAPMD will play in changing the course of PMDs and supporting millions of people affected by these conditions. Get involved! Ignite the fight.

Where can I do my run?

Anywhere you like! These are virtual races/runs/walk/wheels - so you can join in wherever you are in the world! Share your pictures as we want to see where YOU do your race! Use the #IgnitethefightPMDD hashtag so we can see, share and encourage your progress!

  • If your country has recommendations to stay indoors due to COVID-19 - please comply with that and take no risks.

  • If you are able to go outside - pick somewhere where you can stay a safe distance from others.

  • Treadmill runs/walks encouraged!

  • We just ask that you choose somewhere that is safe and has level ground as we cannot be held responsible for any injuries!

When can I take part?

  • Anytime that suits you! Join in with us on the 15th October 2020 where we will be sharing our stories and (literal!) journeys on social media. You can also take part anytime up to the end of 2020.

How does it work?

  • You pick which race/distance you want to tackle and you purchase a place - adding any extras you would like to purchase! Then all you have to do is train (if needed!) and get your groove on at a time that suits you! Tag us in your pictures and use the #IgniteyourfightPMDD so we can cheer you on!

Have other questions?

Can I do the race when I like?

  • Yes - pick a time/day that works for you and go for it!

What if I don’t finish the race?

  • We understand that everyone is at different levels of fitness and that’s OK. If you struggle to finish the race - be safe in the knowledge that your donation is still going to a good cause where you will help others! You can always do the rest of the race at another time to suit you!

Are you sending out medals?

  • We were hoping to do medals, however the costing and logistics of sending these worldwise was prohibitive - plus, as it’s our first set of races we are not sure of the popularity so didn’t want to over/under-order and waste your hard earned donations! We will revisit having medals if the races prove popular and ongoing!

Can I just do the ‘race’ at my own pace?

  • Yes of course - there is no pressure to race against the clock/others if you don’t want to! We want you to enjoy the experience and get something out of it - so run, walk, wheel (or use any other kind of mobility device needed!) - it’s up to you!

Is it safe to do the races at the moment?

  • Please follow your national and local guidelines on outdoor exercise during the COVID-19 pandemic. In many places, outdoor exercise is currently safe and encouraged, though it’s important to keep at least 2 metres of distance between you and your non-household exercise companions. Anyone exhibiting ANY Covid-19 symptoms should self isolate along with their family/household for 14 days. Please comply with the current advice from your Government regarding movement restrictions. See WHO (World Health Organisation) for up to date information.
