This event has passed, but if you would like the recording, please email brett@iapmd.org.

Half of our world’s population will have a period (or 450!) in their lifetimes, and yet the conversation about periods is still pretty quiet.

“I’m on my period,” is whispered between girlfriend’s at workout classes, bulky pads are hidden under baggy shorts, tampons slipped up sleeves on the way to the bathroom...

We’re told to suck it up and quiet down… But for those of us living with PMDD, a mental health condition linked to our periods, this hush hush poses a real problem. How can we ever talk about our experiences and raise awareness, when we can’t even talk about periods?

Heather Hendrie endeavors to change this in her new anthology Awfully Hilarious: Period Pieces. Period Pieces weaves together 26 powerful personal narratives about periods, cycles, puberty, menopause, and yes, PMDD! Heather and her fellow writers bust through taboo, secrecy, and shame to spark a conversation about menstruation that our world needs to have.

Join IAPMD’s Brett Buchert for an illuminating conversation with Heather Hendrie and Angelina Jimenez, another writer from Period Pieces as they share their stories about periods and PMDD. We’ll dig into topics around fault, blame, and control, the notion of a ‘normal’ period, the role of trauma and its relationship to PMDD, with a sprinkle of embracing femininity and unraveling the grip of patriarchy. This is gonna be a good one.

Register now to join the conversation live on Wednesday, August 7 at 2pm ET / 7pm BST. You won’t want to miss it!
