Despite being such a debilitating condition, PMDD (Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder) is largely unheard of. Hundred of thousands of women and AFAB individuals battle this condition every month, often not having a name to put to the condition and just believing that it is a weakness or they are β€˜broken’. Finding out about PMDD can be life-changing - finally answers to years of questions and confusion. We call on you to help accelerate the process of PMDD awareness by taking a few moments to take the β€˜PMDD Pledge’! Speak up and stand up against stigma, raise awareness and empower fellow #PMDDpeeps!

I have PMDD myself

It can be hard to speak out about PMDD - but this year I pledge to do the following when I am able:

  • I will correct people when they use the wrong terminology around PMDD e.g. β€˜No it is not like PMS, and it is not funny’

  • I will share my PMDD story when I am able

  • I will reach out to others for help and support when I’m struggling

  • I will continue to courageously speak up and stand up against stigma and empower fellow sufferers to do the same

  • I will point out when PMDD is missing from a website or resource*

I care about someone with PMDD

Understanding something I cannot see can be challenging. This year I will pledge to:

  • Speak up about PMDD and help raise awareness

  • I will continue to learn about PMDD and pass that information on to others, as appropriate

  • I will do my best to listen without judgement to my loved one and provide a safe and supportive environment where they can thrive and live up to their potential

I am a health care professional

This year (and beyond!) I pledge to:

  • Include PMDD in my work

  • I will spend time learning more about evidence-based treatments to help treat PMDD

  • I will be empathetic to the effects that this cyclical disorder can have on the lives of those living with it

  • I will tell my patients and clients that the brain is just like any other organ in the body and needs medical care with the same attention that you would give your heart or lungs

  • I will listen without judgment and offer care and resources

  • I will challenge stigma and other barriers to access and care for those with PMDD and other PMDs
