What is Premenstrual Disorders Awareness Month?

Started in 2013 as PMDD Awareness Month and expanded to encompass all premenstrual disorders in 2021, PMD Awareness Month is celebrated each April to raise awareness and build advocacy for Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder (PMDD) and Premenstrual Exacerbation (PME) of underlying disorders.

What’s the theme?

The theme for 2024 is Our Lightbulb Moment. A lightbulb moment is a moment of sudden realization, enlightenment, or inspiration. When it comes to PMDD/PME, it’s tracking our symptoms. It’s getting a diagnosis. It’s finding a provider. It’s starting treatment. It’s joining this community. What was your lightbulb moment?

Week 1 - Your Lightbulb Moment - Monday, April 1 - Sunday, April 7

Share a lightbulb moment you’ve had in your journey with PMDD/PME. Maybe it was putting the pieces together to see the connection between your symptoms and cycles. Maybe it was finding a treatment, a provider, or protocol that made a world of difference. Create a post or reel to share your story.

Week 2 - Diagnosis - Monday, April 8 - Sunday, April 14

What was the impact of getting a diagnosis for PMDD or PME? Did it change how you feel about your experience? How did you track your symptoms? Did you self-diagnose first? Did you experience misdiagnosis? Tell the story!

Week 3 - What Helps - Monday, April 15 - Sunday, April 21

What has helped you in your journey with premenstrual disorders? Maybe it’s a treatment or a lifestyle change. Maybe it’s getting outside, spending time with people and pets you love, or finding community. What helps YOU?

Week 4 - Challenge - Monday, April 22 - Sunday, April 28

It’s time for a challenge within the challenge. Challenge yourself in any way you like! This challenge could be something related to your health like scheduling with a new provider or starting a new regimen. It could be a fitness challenge to raise awareness (i.e. 10 Mile Run for PMD Awareness) or a project you’ve wanted to start, or any other challenge. Go for it, and share!

Week 5 - Reflection - Monday, April 29 - Tuesday, April 30

Time to look back, and look forward. What was PMD Awareness Month 2024 like for you? Did you grow in your understanding of PMDs and yourself? How will you take this experience with you going forward?
